Open Recipe Format

Well, I suppose after all my ranting and raving, it's time to start putting my money where my mouth is. Since I'm sick of existing "standards" for computer recipe storage formats, I've decided to go and create my own, doing it the right way. And since so many of my friends would argue that the open source is the right way (and I certainly agree on this project), that's how I'm doing it.

So, to all those people who might be interested in getting serious with kitchen software, head on over to http://openrecipeformat.org/ and send me an email. Hopefully we'll have a mailing list going soon enough, and more of a website than the message I have up there now. I have a few professional chefs that I'm trying to recruit for the project, so that we can get input from the people that would really use the software in a professional setting.

  1. I am curious as to why you are looking to create another spec - is RecipeML not good enough? If not, what about looking to extend it or change it in some way? I know little to nothing about RecipeML...

  2. No, I don't think it is good enough. Well-intentioned, but it seems to lack input from anyone that wishes to use it in a professional capacity. Check out the site, there's a few examples and a bit of discussion.
