How to Build a 3D Tux Cake
Home Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10
Step 10: Storage and transportation
We're done! Aren't we? Not quite. You still need to get it to whereever the party is. This is up to you, but I can give you a few poiners. First of all, once you've attached the modelling chocolate, you can't freeze it anymore. You're going to have to store Tux in the fridge. I hope you didn't make it a week in advance or something, because it would probably taste a little stale. In my case, I had to remove a shelf from the fridge and stack a few groceries to the side. Fortunately I had planned for this, so there weren't many groceries to move.

When it's time to move Tux, you'll want the help of another person. First of all, he's a little heavy. Second, you want to keep him flat, and that's not easy with just one person. Third, it really helps to have somebody hold him in their lap and/or keep their eyes on him while driving him around. Speaking of driving, you'll need to go slowly. If you have to take a busy road, a lot of people will probably be flipping you off for driving so slowly and carefully. And despite your best efforts, the person holding Tux will likely complain for the entire drive that you have managed to hit every single bump that the road has, and then some, especially if his name is Jayce. What a whiner.
Congratulations! You did it!
Okay, so maybe you didn't do it. This sort of thing is hard. I have professional training in the form of an associates degree in culinary arts, and a small amount of real world experience behind me, and it was still rough for me. Don't get discouraged! Even if you just practice parts of the cake, you will eventually build up enough personal knowledge to pull this off, and probably other cakes like it. If you're completely insane (as I believe all cake decorators are), then you may find this to be an enlightening and maybe even fun experience! Good luck!
If anyone has any comments about this cake, please feel free to leave them on the original blog post. Please watch your language, this is a family blog. Specifically, my family reads this blog. Thank you for your visit!
Other People Who Made It
(update: 10/02/2006)
When I posted this tutorial, I didn't really expect anyone to actually make one! And yet, only a couple of weeks later, somebody did. If you decide to make this cake as well, drop me a line! I'll go ahead and post a link back to you on this page. Just leave a comment on this post.
