Black Chandelier Cake
The Party
With our dowel-supported cake and our cushioned chandelier, we made our way north, to the newest Black Chandelier location at Fashion Place Mall, in Murray, Utah. It was winter, and since the store was so warm, we left the cake in the car to keep cool until it was time to present it. As the band reached the middle of the set, we headed out to the car to get the cake.
We made our way to the table and started to set up the cake. Because of the screw and washer on the bottom of the base, I brough hand towels with me to put under the cake base to keep it level. With the cake in place, I carefully removed the chandelier from the paper towels and placed it on top of the cake.
The band finished playing, Jared announced the cake, and everyone took a moment to gawk before we started serving it. A woman that I guessed was one of Jared's models was kind enough to help serve, and ended up handing out almost every slice as I worked at cutting the next one.
The cake was a success, and nearly everyone in attendance had a slice. Of course, I found out later that there were some vegans present, and as much as the liked how the cake looked, they wanted nothing to do with actually eating something made with eggs, butter and gelatin. I was a little surprised at how many people thought that I used marzipan instead of fondant. As much as I would love to have done so, let's face it, marzipan is expensive. Still, it was nice to look around the store and watch a crowd enjoying the store, each other's company and, of course, the cake.
