Beastie the BSD Daemon Cake
The Software
I decided to make this cake a little bit smaller than the Tux Cake. I went with eight 8-inch layers of devil's food cake. As it turns out the recipe that I posted recently actually makes two perfect 8-inch layers. Make it four times and you're all set.
You'll want a couple of batches of cream cheese frosting. It's a pretty standard recipe, so rather than making up my own, I went with the Joy of Baking version.
You will also need a couple of batches of Rice Krispies Treats. I use the recipe at Cooking for Engineers, but I use an 8 x 8 pan for it instead of the 9 x 13 that they call for.
You will also want about 4 to 6 pounds of rolled fondant. You can make your own or you can buy it. The majority of this needs to be red, or at least as red as you can get it. I use powdered food coloring to do this, because it doesn't mess with the consistency of the fondant. You will also need a little bit of green and a little bit of white, for the shoes and the eyes.
You'll want a couple of pounds of granulated sugar as well, a wee bit of corn syrup, and some yellow food coloring. We'll get to that in a bit.
