Deleting my Plaxo Account
Not too long ago, I started receiving invites to Plaxo. Everyone that sent me an invite was somebody that I was already connected to on LinkedIn, and it generally just seemed silly to be connected to them on multiple services, especially when I only ever used one of those (LinkedIn), and even then just rarely. Every time I received an email from Plaxo, I considered just deleting my account there. I've never been a fan of social networking sites. Other than LinkedIn, which I have used for professional contacts, they just seem like a waste of time to me.
This morning I heard about Comcast's acquisition of Plaxo. That was the last straw. Cable was already on my list of services that I neither want nor need (I've been a DirecTV subscriber for over a decade), and Comcast's treatment of their customers has been less than stellar. I decided long ago that I wasn't going to support Comcast, and I'm sticking with that decision. As of a few minutes ago, my Plaxo account has been deleted. Any further invites will be ignored.
As for the rest of the social networking services, don't bother sending me invites. They will likely be ignored. Nothing personal, I just don't have a use for them. I will still use my LinkedIn account on occassion, but that's it. I'm also not going to bother with Twitter, MySpace, etc. I still like my blog, and will post when I can. I still like other blogs too, and will keep up on any that I find interesting and can read in Google Reader.
Wow. That kind of feels good. A weight lifted from my shoulders. I almost feel like I have time to go and do things. Like mow the lawn tomorrow morning. I love having a lawn that I can mow. That goes on the list of things that need to be done anyway.
